• Account details such as first name, last name, username, email address, password authentication data, profile photo, bio, role, account status, and email verification status.
• Location and discovery details such as state of origin, town of origin where applicable, current living state, town visibility settings, and limited change history where needed for trust and abuse prevention.
• Community activity such as forum topics, comments, requests, request replies, saves, follows, profile activity, notifications, connect request metadata, reports, moderation decisions, settings, and support interactions.
• Connect request content where needed to deliver the feature, process reports, enforce safety rules, investigate abuse, comply with law, or protect users.
• Advertising information such as advertiser profile details, business name, website, ad creative, campaign settings, placement choices, review status, wallet or payment-related UI records where supported, and policy decisions.
• Technical information such as device type, browser, approximate IP-derived signals, session data, cookies, local storage, timestamps, referral signals, error logs, performance data, and security events.

What may be public

Public information may include your username, avatar, bio, state-level location, town-level origin detail if you choose to show it, public posts, comments, requests, request replies, profile tabs, follower and following relationships, and visible activity.

Your first and last name are collected for account integrity and are not intended to appear on your public profile unless a future feature clearly asks you to publish them.

How we use information

• Create, secure, and maintain accounts.
• Show relevant state forums, categories, topics, requests, Clan matches, profiles, notifications, and connect requests.
• Support signup, email verification, password reset, settings, profile management, saved items, followers, following, and account recovery flows.
• Moderate content, inspect reports, apply restrictions, prevent spam, protect users, maintain audit logs, and investigate platform abuse.
• Review ads, advertiser verification details, creatives, destination URLs, placements, and campaign abuse signals.
• Improve reliability, performance, product design, safety systems, analytics, and support workflows.

Location visibility

NairaClan uses origin state, town of origin where applicable, and current living state to power community context and Clan discovery. State-level information remains visible because it is part of how the platform builds local trust.

Members may hide town-level detail where the product allows it. Lagos and FCT may not require town of origin in the same way other states do. Current living location may be collected at state level only.

Connect requests, reports, and moderation review

Connect requests are not public, but they may be processed to deliver the feature and reviewed if reported, required for abuse investigation, necessary for safety enforcement, needed for legal compliance, or needed to protect the platform.

Reports, report evidence, moderator notes, admin actions, passcode access records, audit logs, restrictions, and safety decisions may be retained so repeat abuse, staff access, and enforcement history can be understood responsibly.

Cookies, sessions, and analytics

NairaClan may use cookies, local storage, session storage, authentication tokens, and similar technologies to keep users signed in, remember preferences, protect sessions, support referral or invite flows, improve performance, and reduce abuse.

Sharing and service providers

NairaClan may use service providers for hosting, databases, authentication, storage, email, security, analytics, image handling, deployment, advertising operations, payments or wallet features if introduced, moderation support, and customer support.

Information may also be shared when required by law, legal process, platform security needs, fraud investigation, rights protection, emergency safety concerns, enforcement of our terms, or a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

Retention

We keep information as long as needed to run the platform, maintain accounts, show community content, operate messaging, review ads, investigate reports, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, keep audit logs, and comply with law.

If an account is deleted or restricted, some public posts, comments, requests, replies, reports, moderation records, audit logs, and safety records may remain where needed for conversation integrity, legal compliance, abuse prevention, or platform security.

Your choices

• Update profile and privacy settings where available.
• Choose what you post publicly and whether town-level details are visible where that setting exists.
• Block users and report unsafe activity.
• Use settings to manage password, privacy, profile details, location details, notifications, followers, and following where supported.
• Clear browser cookies or local storage, understanding that login, preference, security, and session features may stop working correctly.
• Request account or data assistance through official support channels when available.

Security, staff access, and age

NairaClan uses reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including authentication, access controls, passcode-gated admin areas, audit logs, and role-based operational tools.

No online service can guarantee absolute security. You should keep your password private and report suspicious account activity.

NairaClan is not intended for children under 13. Accounts that appear underage may be restricted or removed.

Updates

This policy may change as the product grows, especially as ads, analytics, moderation, payments, or support tools evolve. The effective date shows when it was last updated.
